North Cascades National Park Considers Clean-up of Firing Ranges in Stehekin and Newhalem

July 16, 2014 – Sedro Woolley, WA - North Cascades National Park will hold public meetings on July 22nd, 2014 in Stehekin and July 24th, 2014 in Newhalem, for review and public comment on clean up of two firearm shooting ranges at Newhalem and Stehekin. The Stehekin public meeting will be held at the Community Building in Stehekin from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. The Newhalem public meeting will be held at Currier Hall in Newhalem from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.


The National Park Service strongly encourages interested members of the public to comment, in writing, on the documents contained in the Administrative Record as well as the EE/CA itself. All comments must be received in writing on or before August 15th, 2014, to be considered and responded to in the final Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis decision. Comments can be provided at the public meetings, through the PEPC website (below), or by U.S. mail to Superintendent’s Office, North Cascades National Park Complex, 810 State Route 20, Sedro Woolley, WA 98284.

Superintendent Karen Taylor-Goodrich said, “As we consider cleaning up these firing ranges, we would like to hear public comments before proceeding with this course of action. We invite the public to come to the meetings and express their views.”
