EXPERIENCE WINTER IN STEHEKIN AND

LAKE CHELAN NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

Winter is an excellent time to visit Stehekin and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. Plentiful snow has fallen in the Stehekin Valley, allowing for snowshoeing and up-valley skiing. Visitor services, however, are limited in the winter. Additionally, the North Cascades National Park Service Complex is in the process of negotiating the issuance of an interim contract for the operation of the National Park Service concession restaurant and accommodations at the Stehekin Landing until a new long-term contract is issued by October, 2008. Until this interim contract is in place, restaurant and accommodations at the Stehekin Landing are closed. However, several other lodging options are available throughout the Stehekin Valley.

Visitors are reminded to bring their own picnic lunch and food items – limited lunch and snacks items are available on the Lady Express. Visitors traveling by personal boat must have enough gas for the 100 mile round-trip from Chelan since the commercial gas sales at the Stehekin marina are currently closed.

The Golden West Visitor Center is currently open 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and will be open daily 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. March 15 through April 30. National Park Service Rangers will greet the passenger ferry and are available at the Visitor Center for information.
