Following the extensive storm activity the past 72 hours, two small active wildfires have been observed and are being suppressed.

The Pyramid Fire is south and above Pyramid Lake in North Cascades National Park. The fire is less than one acre in size and burning in mixed live and beetle killed conifer trees. Smoke jumpers were dispatched and are suppressing this fire due to proximity to Diablo Dam, HWY 20 and Colonial Campground.

The Moon Fire is about nine miles northwest of Stehekin in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The fire is less than one acre in size and burning primarily in beetle killed conifer trees in the Moon Creek drainage. North Cascades National Park Fire Fighters are on scene suppressing this fire due to its proximity to the Upper Stehekin Valley.

In the northern region of the park, the Luna Pilot Fire has burned less than one acre. The fire is on the northeast flank of Luna Peak and just up from Luna Creek showing very little activity.

The Panther Creek Fire has continued to burn down to and along Panther Creek to the west – away from HWY 20. The fire is now estimated to be 215 acres in size. Most of the burning has occurred at the base of the fire near and along Panther Creek. Fire managers continue to manage this fire with anticipated actions if or when the fire reaches specified parameters.

TRAIL CLOSURES:

The Panther Creek Trail is closed from the trailhead on Highway 20 to Fourth of July Pass until further notice.

HIGHWAY 20:

Highway 20 is open. Park visitor facilities have not been affected.
