NPS Releases Final Benefits-Sharing EIS
Yellowstone National Park - The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to implement benefits-sharing agreements with scientists who conduct research in National Park System units. Such agreements could return benefits to the park and the public if the research results lead to the development of commercially valuable materials. The proposed changes are outlined in a Benefits Sharing Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which has just been completed and released to the public.

JNEM Final GMP Preferred Alternate Selected

The Final GMP/EIS was released to the public October 23, 2009 for one last public review prior to signing the decision document that signifies the completion of the planning process.

Created by Stephen Ogumah, this video documents a civic engagement project with the residents of Brooklyn and Queens, particularly the Caribbean immigrant communities. It was produced in partnership with Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and Gateway National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service. This project was created to coincide with the airing of the Ken Burns documentary about National Parks, America’s Best Idea, in September 2009.

Homestead Education and Heritage Centers Closed Thanksgiving Day
Homestead National Monument of America - All Homestead National Monument of America facilities will be closed on November 26, Thanksgiving Day. Visitors are welcome to hike the trail system from the parking lots at both the Heritage and Education Centers from dawn to dusk. Normal hours of operation (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends) for the Heritage and Education Centers will resume on Friday, November 27 with the beginning of the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures.

Presido Coastal Trail Improvement Project
Golden Gate National Recreation Area - The National Park Service (NPS) is soliciting public comments on a proposal to improve three miles of the California Coastal Trail within the Presidio of San Francisco.
Since 2003, the Presidio Trails and Bikeways Master Plan has been guiding ongoing efforts to develop a network of trails and bikeways within the Presidio. In 2008, the NPS, working with the Presidio Trust and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Conservancy), began concentrating on implementing the improvements approved in the Master Plan for the Presidio Coastal Trail.
