The Southeast Region of the National Park Service received 42 entries from our National Historic Landmark Stewards in 7 of the 9 states and 2 territories in the region.

Constructed in 1953 of reused materials and the oldest firing facility at the Marshall Space Flight Center, The Redstone Test Stand was instrumental in developing procedures for the launch of America's first satellite and first manned space flight. Advancements in technology led to its closure in 1961. Today Redstone Test Stand is not open to the public.

Clamagore, a WWII Balao class submarine built after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and converted to a Guppy III in 1947, is the only surviving example of its type. Clagamore is moored at Patriot's Point Naval and Maritime Museum and open to the public.

State Capitol

The Capitol is a monumental neoclassical structure, constructed between 1884 and 1889 as a symbol of the "New South." Remarkably, this building was built within budget, with $118.43 remaining after construction. The Capitol continues in its original use.

Honorable Mention

A federal style brick house on a winters day in Kentucky

Locust Grove

This conservative, Federal style brick house was lived in by George Rogers Clark after suffering a stroke and leg amputation in 1809 until his death in 1818. Clark is a hero of the American revolution in the western theater.
