River Detours and Closures at the Thomas Buford Pugh Memorial Bridge

Public Meeting on Hike and Bike Trail System

The National Park Service is soliciting public input as part of an Environmental Assessment for the construction of two stacked loop hike and bike trail systems in the Craig Branch and Garden Ground areas of New River Gorge National River. Additionally, the potential impacts of allowing bicycle use on the proposed new trails along with select existing trails and administrative roads within New River Gorge National River and Bluestone National Scenic River will be analyzed.

The New River Gorge was logged extensively thoughout the past century. The landscape is now recovering, with the park ecosystem returning to its more natural state, but there are still plenty of signs of the past activities.
