Program Description:
Students learn that the area where a living thing finds food, water, and shelter is its habitat. Students understand that to protect wildlife, we must protect habitat. Students listen to The Salamander Room; they visualize what an animal needs to survive. Students explore habitats using animal puppets and enjoy other participatory activities, which the park ranger has chosen to effectively meet the objectives of the presentation.

Fayette, Greenbrier, Monroe, Nicholas, Raleigh & Summers counties

1. Define habitat and identify why habitats are important

2. Name an animal or plant that lives in New River Gorge National River and describe its habitat needs

3. State one thing he or she can do to protect animal habitats
