Program Description
Students role play members of a family that once lived in the New River Gorge to learn past life ways. Students may be part of an American Indian family, a family of mountain settlers from the 1700s, or a coal camp family of the late 1800s. Students will learn about work and play, and about survival. Students will understand and appreciate both similarities and differences between family life of the past and the present.
Available to schools in:Fayette, Greenbrier, Monroe, Nicholas, Raleigh & Summers counties
Grade Level: 4th

Through time, families have met the challenges of living in the New River Gorge.
Instructional Objectives:
1. Define cultural heritage
2. Identify and describe two groups of past New River Gorge inhabitants
3. Compare and contrast New River Gorge lifeways of the past and the present
