Nez Perce NHP 2009 Summer Schedule

Daily Programs at Spalding Visitor Center

(June 13 to September 7, 2009)

 

The Spalding Visitor is open every day. During the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) the park will be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

 

Tipi Pitching. At 9:30 am daily, help the rangers set up the park’s full size tipi every morning through the summer. Program lasts 40 minutes.

 

Daily Ranger Programs. At 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm, join the park staff as they share the stories and legacies of the Nez Perce people and culture. Programs last about 25 minutes.

 

Junior Ranger Programs. Want to be a Junior Ranger? Children between the ages of 5 and 12 are invited. Bring the entire family and earn a junior ranger badge! Booklet and patch are free; donations accepted.

 

Films. Nez Perce: Portrait of a People tells the story of the Nez Perce people. The film is shown throughout the day and is closed captioned and audio described.

 

Daily Programs at Big Hole National Battlefield

(June 7 to September 7, 2009)

 

The Big Hole visitor center is open every day. During the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) the park will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

 

Tipi Pitching. At 10:00 am daily, help the rangers set up the park’s full size tipi every morning through the summer. Program lasts 40 minutes.

 

Battlefield Tours. Ranger led tours of the battlefield are available daily at 1:30pm. Self-guided trail brochures are available at each of the trailheads.

 

Summer Speaker Series. Beginning on July 4th and every weekend through Labor Day Big Hole will host a summer speaker series. Look for a schedule of specific speakers to be announced at a later time.

 

Films: Weet'uciklitukt: There's No Turning Back, Battle at Big Hole is shown on request at the Big Hole Visitor Center.

Did You Know?
Josiah Red Wolf was five years old when the 1877 war began. His parents were killed at the Battle of Big Hole in Montana. He returned to Big Hole at the age of 91 to help dedicate the new visitor center in 1968.
