Nez Perce National Historical Park
Operating Hours & Seasons

The visitor center for Nez Perce National Historical Park at Spalding, Idaho, is open all year. The hours of operation are:

Winter Hours: From November 28, 2011 to March 17, 2012, the visitor center will be open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Spring Hours:
From March 18, 2012 to May 25, 2012 the visitor center will be open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Summer Hours:
From Memorial Day Weekend (May 26, 2012) to Labor Day (September 3, 2012) 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Fall Hours: From Labor Day to late November, 2012, the visitor center will be open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.


The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.


The Visitor Center at Big Hole National Battlefield in Wisdom, Montana is open all year. The hours of operation are:

Winter Hours: Typically, in mid-November the park transitions to winter hours - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Spring and Summer Hours: From mid-April to mid-September the park is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Fall Hours: Early September to mid-November, the park is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please Note: Early winter weather can have an effect on hours. Call the park for current conditions - 406-689-3155.

The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.


Bear Paw Battlefield is open year round from dawn to dusk. The Blaine County Museum in Chinook has exhibits and an audiovisual program on the battle at Bear Paw. In the summer the museum is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. They are closed for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. For the remainder of the year, it is open on weekdays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

Did You Know?
The Nez Perce often travelled great distances to fish with family and friends. They fished as far away as present day Willamette Falls, near Oregon City as well as Celilo and Kettle Falls to the north.
