The Civil War occurred when photography was becoming widewly available and thousands of three-dimensional images of the war were shot with Stereo cameras. The war also inspired a great deal of poetry, much of it published in The Rebellion Record, and Walt Whitman and Herman Melville both produced significant books of Civil War poetry: Drum-Taps and Battle-Pieces.
