Contact: Emily G Prigot, 508-996-4095 x 6105 On Saturday, May 31, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, Southeastern Regional Transit Authority, and the City of New Bedford will bring back the national park's shuttle system, the NB LINE. The NB LINE will run on weekends from May 31 through June 22, (and on AHA! night from 6-9 pm), then seven days a week from June 23 through August 31.From September 6 through October 12 it will run on weekends only.The hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.A one day pass only costs $1.00 for adults and is free for children under 12 and students with ID. Frank Barrows, Acting Superintendent of New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, said, "The NB Line provides a fun, economical, and easy way to explore many of the historical, cultural, and recreational destinations in New Bedford. It links visitors with the unique history represented by the national park, historical sites, neighborhoods and beautiful public lands in downtown and the south end of the city." The NB LINE is aimed at connecting visitors with the New Bedford community, providing easy access to New Bedford attractions, promoting the city's history and creating a cohesive visitor experience for the hundreds of thousands of annual visitors to the whaling city.The shuttle system will have two routes starting from the National Park Visitor Center.The Downtown Route, running every 20 minutes, includes stops at the working waterfront, museums, parking garages, local businesses, Ocean Explorium, and other visitor destinations in the downtown area. The Fort Taber Route, running every 30 minutes, connects other primary visitor destinations of the city such as Fort Taber Park, antique shops, and beaches to the historic downtown. It is open seven days a week, from 9 AM-5 PM, and offers information, exhibits, and a free orientation movie every hour on the hour from 10 AM-4 PM.The visitor center is accessible to all.
