The Office of Lands, Resources, & Planning
Legislation
The Office of Stewardship and Partnerships coordinates legislative actions through the Department of the Interior and other agencies and with Congressional staff as decisions are made in Congress which have potential affect on park personnel and programs, and the staff apprises and briefs park and office staff on legislative, executive, and regulatory actions with potential impacts on the Region. The staff coordinates the National Capital Region Legislative Program and advises and assists park staff in preparing legislative and regulatory documents. Staff is available to coordinate research activities with park and office staff on legislative aspects of actions under consideration or discussion which may be taking place which affect park land and park programs. Staff prepares reports, drafts testimony, briefs, digests, researches legislative topics, and collects, consolidates and edits information to report on legislative issues. The Office oversees and maintains the official legislative histories and cumulative record of NCR legislation. Stewardship and Partnerships staff also provide information and advice to the public, Congressional Committees and staff, and to other federal agencies interested in the legislative and administrative processes involved in erecting national memorials in the Nation's Capital. A link to the Legislation Page is to the left. Recognizing that there are many, many sources and sites available for legislative research and that there are overlaps and gaps in the information each provides, we encourage you to call or email our staff to do your "legal clerking" for you. An email link, telephone and telefax numbers for your legislative staff specialist are also provided.
Stewardship and Partnerships also assists park and office staff in resolving operational and administrative problems that affect the performance and operation of advisory committees. Office staff also serves as liaison for the NPS Office of Policy with NCR advisory committee officers. A link to the GSA Committee Management Secretariat is provided which provides information on NPS and all other Federal advisory committees.
