Civil War Defenses of Washington
- Prepared preliminary work including GIS database
- Produced a newsletter in January of this year
- Currently drafting another newsletter to identify the alternatives we’ve come up with to date
- Should be out by the end of the month
Harpers Ferry
Manassas
- We’ve conducted two public meetings to date
- Park staff are revising the alternatives and writing the affected environment section
- We have three alternatives, IP creating two different experiences and extensive scene restoration, and VC to leave the park in the future
- Should have an internal draft late October
- Bypass issue has a problem with the model for Northern VA, First looking at I-66 then the Rt. 29
Mary McLeod Bethune Council House
- Just getting started
- A meeting was held in July with park and advisory council to review issues and concerns for the park
- A newsletter was sent out in the beginning of this month
- Marta Kelly has left the park, so we will have to regroup
Prince William Forest Park
- Draft went out years ago
- Currently waiting for an agreement to be signed by USMC and NPS
- Then we will finalize the GMP
Rock Creek Park
- Have issued 3 Newsletters, both in paper form and on the Internet
- Newsletter 3 has the 4 Alternative scenarios in it
- Two Open Houses were conducted in June, over 700 attended
- Currently have over 700 written comments, we expect about 300 comments from the internet
- Has become pretty controversial because of the mention of road closures, and eliminating the golf course, stables (all) and community gardens
- We will be putting out a newsletter this Fall/Winter addressing the concerns the public expressed during our two open houses
- Expect to have the Draft out next summer
