developed for at-risk 14-20 year-old teens and young adults.
programs included expanded recreation programming at Roosevelt
Center three nights a week from 10 pm to 2 am, and five hours
on Sundays which offer participants an alternative to anti-social
activities. Program provided transportation to various recreation
and cultural events, outreach activities, career counseling
and job placement, personal awareness classes to enhance teen
self-image, GED tutorial classes, and seasonal employment
was available for ten participants. Recreation programming
included aquatices, gym sports, board and table games, and
crafts.A number of recreation, education and social organizations
within the community have supported the program beyond the
grant period. Since 1992 over 300 youth have enrolled in the
program. Many have accomplished their goals such as obtaining
their GEDs, enrolling in college, and job placement.
