Description: Recreation programs were developed for the disabled through a cooperative effort by public service providers, the private sector and the disabled. Specific activities included training for recreation employees, COMPAS artists, volunteers and social service agencies. Recreation activities specifically designed for handicap citizens, special training for recreation providers, and transportation was provided for disabled to attend other recreation activities at several locations throughout the city.

Description: This program is intended to bring together Block Clubs, the Police Department, the Recreation Department, and various community-based groups by establishing a "Park Partners" program. The Recreation Department serve as a catalyst for mobilizing community groups, by fostering volunteer partnerships, and implement various neighborhood programs and volunteer activities. The purpose is to provide recreation and social service activities at the neighborhood level, and reduce crime, gangs, and drug activity in those areas.
