Project Name: Inner City Youth Skating

Description: King/Greenleaf Center - In innovative
program developed by the city, in partnership with the police
department and a private parking authority, worked together
and created a new program for 12-19 year old at-risk youth.
A parking garage of a hotel was converted into a roller skating
ramp each weekend. Access to the garage was provided without
charge by the parking authority, while the parks department
and the police department provided entertainment and education.
Free skate rental, safety equipment, music, and recreation
leaders were provided by those agencies. Councelling, educational
lectures, rap session and other group activities were integrated
with the fun. The program began in the summer of 1992, and
was so successful that was offered each summer through 1994.

new wolkway, playground equipment, exercise court, and renovated
