Description: Innovative program called 'Trailkeepers' trained at-risk youth, ages 16-19, in maintenance and promotion of New Haven's multi-use trails. Under the guidance of an Urban Forest Ranger, stuudents received training in skills related to trail work including tree care and outdoor maintenance, and science. Completion of course earned credits for high school graduation and a $1,000 award. Students were required to promote trails in school and in their neighborhood.
