Wyoming Valley Wellness Trails
(Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania)
The Wyoming Valley Wellness Trails Partnership aims to integrate
the community's health care facilities and programs with its
trails and park areas. The Partnership is working to develop
a 60-mile trail network of existing and proposed new trails.
The Rivers & Trails program is helping guide the creation
of an Action Plan and also is facilitating meetings of the
Partnership Steering Committee.
Safford
Discovery Park Multi-Use Trail (Safford, Arizona)
This innovative trail project has placed exercise stations
designed by a health care educator along the trail to provide
opportunities for a full-body workout. The multi-use trail
will connect schoolyards, parks and other public open space
areas. The City of Safford intends to develop programs with
the local school districts to encourage more physical activity
among youth. The Rivers & Trails program has helped in
developing a regional trail plan that will link Gila Valley
communities to existing trails on federal lands.
Safe Routes to Schools (Arlington,
Massachusetts)
This pilot project will create up to ten miles of marked bike
routes in Arlington. The Rivers & Trails program has worked
with the municipal government to create a "Safe Routes"
committee, which is partnering with the health and transportation
communities to establish close-to-home walking and biking
opportunities that encourage these safe and healthful transportation
modes.
