The Northeast Region’s Philadelphia RTCA team was recognized last week as a silver medalist by the Philadelphia Federal Executive Board during their 2009 Excellence in Government Awards ceremony.
Sherry Peck, Helen Mahan, and Julie Bell, the Northeast Region Philadelphia Office Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) team, were recognized by the FEB in the Community Service category for sustained support of community based conservation initiatives in the Greater Philadelphia region. The award recognized RTCA’s work to further a broad range of greenway, trail, river conservation and watershed projects and partnerships in the region, resulting in outstanding on-the-ground results. It noted that the conservation and recreation work of RTCA has resulted in the engagement of diverse communities, new partnerships for regional open space protection in the Delaware Valley, improved public access to urban riverfronts, enhanced watershed protection, and stronger partnerships between National Parks, Heritage Areas and other federal, state, local agencies and community organizations.
