Rangers help visitors learn about the animals of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

You may chose to join a park ranger and explore parts of the original Trace, or learn more about the many American Indian mounds found along route of the modern Parkway. Discover the world of boatmen and bandits, Chickasaw and Choctaw, and forest and wildlife. Ranger programs are always free; schedules and topics vary by season. Please call 1-800-305-7417 for more information on ranger-led activities.

Natchez Trace Parkway Announces Opening of the Ridgeland Information Cabin

September, 12, 2009

Superintendent Cameron H. Sholly announces the opening of the Ridgeland Information Cabin at milepost 102.4 near Ridgeland, Mississippi on September 12, 2009. Visitors are encouraged to come early to meet Natchez Trace Parkway staff, Natchez Trace Parkway Association members, and area officials. Superintendent Sholly will be leading a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 am.

The Ridgeland Information Cabin was built by the National Park Service in 1951. Later leased to the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi, the building became home to the Mississippi Craft Center. The Guild constructed and moved into a new craft center in 2007. The National Park Service (NPS) recently completed renovations and the facility has been reopened as a NPS Visitor Center. Park rangers are available from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm daily to answer questions, distribute parkway maps, and provide information on the Natchez Trace Parkway and the surrounding area. An Eastern National Bookstore gives visitors the opportunity to purchase books, postcards, and other Parkway memorabilia. This event is free to the public.

The Ridgeland Information Cabin is located at milepost 102.4 of the Natchez Trace Parkway near Ridgeland, MS. For more information call the Parkway Visitor Center at 1-800-305-7417.
