NATCHEZ - Park Superintendent Kathleen Jenkins announces that from April 20 through April 28, Natchez National Historical Park will celebrate National Park Week. Tour Fees for Melrose mansion will be waived from Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 26. Tours are available at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. National Parks are living examples of our nation's magnificent natural landscapes and varied cultural heritage. In addition, the park will be celebrating National Junior Ranger Day, April 20 and National Volunteer Day April 27. Visit the park sites or our booth at the Earth Day celebration at the City Bluff and pick up a free Junior Ranger booklet. Complete the activities to become a full-fledged Junior Ranger with official badge and certificate. The park wishes to thank all volunteers in our parks and communities for their selfless efforts to provide needed services to people and organizations. Volunteer opportunities are available in the gardens, visitor services, museum operations and other areas. For a complete listing or more information on events and volunteer opportunities, please visit our website at www.nps.gov/natc under the "schedule of events" link or call Melrose at 601-446-5790. All programs are free of charge, however, Melrose house tours are limited to 20 people per tour; tickets are required. Stop at the Melrose visitor center approximately 30 minutes before your planned tour to pick up a ticket. Also, don't forget to check out www.nationalparkweek.org. There you can share your national park photos, videos, and tips. While you're there, learn all about the ways you can help support your national parks all year round.

An 1840 tornado destroyed John McMurran's law office. Ironically, William Johnson used some of the bricks from McMurran's law office to build his new home on State Street. Today, McMurran's estate Melrose and William Johnson's house are part of Natchez National Historical Park.
