Korean War Veterans Memorial

Memorial Day will be commemorated on Monday, May 31, 2010 as well as during events on the preceding days. Please be aware that there will be numerous road closures and restricted areas during some scheduled events and that Tourmobile, the provider of the park's interpretive transportation, will be operating on revised routes.

There will be several Memorial Day Weekend observances throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Among these activities, many will take place at or near National Mall and Memorial Parks sites. All events are free and open to the public.

  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial  Friday, May 28, 2010-Rolling Thunder wreath laying at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Motorcycles will be parked along Henry Bacon Drive, NW; road will be closed from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. 
  • United States Navy Memorial Saturday, May 29, 2010-U.S. Navy Band Concert and wreath laying; events and set up 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • Korean War Veterans Memorial Saturday, May 29, 2010-Embassy of the Republic of Korea wreath laying; 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial area Saturday, May 29, 2010-Nam Knights of America Memorial Service; 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
  • African American Civil War Memorial  Sunday, May 30, 2010-Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Maryland Memorial Service; 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Steps, West Potomac Park, George Washington Memorial Parkway, Arlington Memorial Bridge, 23rd Street, NW, Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenues, NW from 23rd Street, NW/SW to 3rd Street NW/SW Sunday, May 30, 2010-Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride and rally for Memorial Day; 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Read the News Release.
  • World War II Memorial Monday, May 31, 2010-National Mall and Memorial Parks and Friends of the World War II Memorial Annual Memorial Day Observance; 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Read the Media Advisory.
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monday, May 31, 2010-Annual Memorial Day Observance; 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Constitution Avenue from 7th -17th Streets, NW Monday, May 31, 2010-National Memorial Day Parade; 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

  • U.S. Capitol West Lawn Saturday, May 29, 2010-Dress Rehearsal National Memorial Day Concert; Starting at 8:00 p.m.
  • U.S. Capitol West Lawn Sunday, May 30, 2010-National Memorial Day Concert; 8:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. See Map.
  • Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Amphitheater and Tomb of the Unknowns  Monday, May 31, 2010-National Memorial Day Observance; 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Grand Army of the Republic Memorial

Situated along Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Memorial honors one of the more powerful Civil War veterans' organizations. Its members proudly held Memorial Day as one of the more solemn, sacred days of the year. The GAR also helped determine party nominees and winners for several postwar presidential elections.
