The river looks like it is running through a completely natural setting of trees and bluffs. To the right just out of sight is the town of Osceola. A screen of trees is often what shields the river from development.
The narrow, rocky gorge of the Dalles creates dramatic views and interesting rock features. It is bordered by Wisconsin and Minnesota State Parks. Visit them to see the "potholes" carved into the rocks.
The Soo Line High Bridge was built in 1911 to replace an earlier bridge whose pillars remain in the river. It is 185' above the water with five 350' arch spans. The Bridge is on the National Register of Historic Structures and is still used by trains.
