On Friday, Oct. 16th the National Park Service and Trips for Kids will team up for a youth mountain biking event. The event is part of a nationwide celebration known as Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, supported by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). IMBA`s International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for mountain biking from an early age until his untimely passing in 2002. Event funding is provided by the Jack Doub Memorial Endowment. Additional support comes from CLIF Kid, Mississippi River Fund, the National Park Service, and Smartwool.

The local Twin Cities event will be held at Battle Creek Regional Park in St. Paul. The National Park Service sees this event as a great opportunity to help youth get excited about the outdoors and learn a fun, healthy way to enjoy their nearest national park, the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Park rangers will provide information about the park`s plants and animals.

Trips for Kids will provide equipment and instruction during the event, along with Minnesota Off Road Cyclists. Trips for Kids is a national organization that has been helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988. Trips for Kids chapters nationwide make a difference in kids` lives by opening their world to mountain biking.

The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area is a National Park that represents America`s greatest river, the Mighty Mississippi. The park boundary extends 72 miles through the heart of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The National Park Service works with partners and local governments to care for the river`s nationally significant natural, cultural, recreational and economic resources.
