40. Archeological Survey of a Controlled Burn at
Pipestone National Monument, Pipestone County, Minnesota.
Clark, Caven P.
During the week of May 24, 1993, archeologists from
the Midwest Archeological Center conducted a survey of a bum plot
at Pipestone National
Monument. This project was required in order to identify archeological
sites and artifacts disclosed by the controlled burning of 20 to 30 acres
of Monument property. The survey took place immediately after the bum and
prior to harrowing and seeding of native prairie vegetation. Five
archeological "sites" or activity loci were defined in the area of the
prescribed burn. In addition, a petroglyph site was documented.
