Johnnim Taaiskt
The Gospel According to John, translated into the Nez Perce Language
by the
Reverend George Ainslie
1876
Presbyterian Board of Publication
Henry Spaulding and his contemporaries published books of the New Testament in Nez Perce for the benefit of Nez Perce congregations. The books of Matthew and John were published in the 1870s. Matthew was one of the last works that Spalding had a hand in before he died. George Ainslie came to the Nez Perce Reservation in 1872 and very quickly became proficient in the Nez Perce language. He translated John in 1876 and produced two hymnals in Nez Perce as well.
