HOUSE TOUR
*Note: Most of the items highlighted in this exhibit were used by the Lincolns. These items have come back to the Lincoln Home from the descendants of those families who either stored items for the Lincolns or bought the items at the sale the Lincolns held before moving to Washington, DC. Most of the original Lincoln furnishings were lost when the family that purchased them lost their home in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Extensive research, using newspaper illustrations done of the Lincoln Home in 1860 and newspaper and letters containing written descriptions of the house, enabled the National Park Service to furnish the house with similar antiques and reproductions. Most of these items, like the originals purchased by the Lincolns, were made in the United States
