Framed Newspaper
1865-1875

The first newspaper to publish the details of Lincoln’s death was the New York Herald on April 15, 1865. The newspaper had printed several editions throughout the night and day with updates on Lincoln’s condition at first, then on the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin. These editions have been reprinted hundreds of times since 1865.
