After Lincoln was elected to the Presidency, anything associated with him was turned into a souvenir, including this branch from the elm tree he planted in front of his Springfield house that was made into a cane.

A plain wooden cane was made from a Black Walnut tree on Lincoln’s father, Thomas Lincoln’s farm in Harristown Township near Decatur, IL.  It was made as a souvenir in the 1880s.
