Brick
1855-1856

This painted brick was part of the chimney for the back parlor and Mary Lincoln’s bedroom. It was painted the same color as the house.  The brick was later covered up by a new roof, thereby protecting the paint.  During the 1987-88 restoration, it was removed and a sample of the paint was taken to have a chemical analysis completed. The color was used to create the paint colors for the house.
