Early Neoclassical style, c. 1780
Abingdon, Maryland; Joseph Toy

This simple drum shaped teapot reflects the reserved manner and plain tastes of its owner, Priscilla Dorsey Ridgely. It was made by a Quaker silversmith, Joseph Toy, who worked in the small Harford County village of Abingdon. Toy also made a virtually identical teapot for Priscilla’s sister Rebecca Dorsey Ridgely.
