This specialized travel accoutrement reflects a time when luxury items were available to serve practically any need. In an era when automobile travel was becoming more widespread among the well-to-do but before there were many restaurants along the roads, a lunch box with silver sandwich container and flask for liquid refreshment provided a much-needed repast. The carrying case could also have been suitable for taking refreshment into the hunting field.
