This shell-shaped serving dish is part of a large service of dinner china purchased for Hampton by second master Charles Carnan Ridgely (1760-1829). Each piece was embellished with the Ridgely family coat-of-arms and crest by a leading Parisian firm of porcelain decorators Feuillet, Boyer, Blot and Hébert.
