Neoclassical style; 1819-1822
Paris; J. A. Cressend

The striking design and neoclassical ornament of this pitcher are typical of the finest French silver. According to family tradition, the piece was a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette, who dined with Eliza Ridgely’s father, Nicholas Greenbury Ridgely, in Baltimore during his triumphal visit to the United States in 1824.
