Neoclassical style, 1790-1810
France

Porcelain with a pattern of blue cornflower sprigs originated with pieces made for Queen Marie Antoinette by the Sevres factory and subsequently produced by numerous other factories in France, and throughout Europe and England. This tureen is part of a service that was ordered by Rebecca Dorsey Ridgely, wife of Hampton’s builder Capt. Charles Ridgely. A set of similar design was used by the Custis-Lee family at Arlington House in the 19th century.
