The Deer Lodge Valley was not a permanent settlement site for Native Americans. It was the primary travel route for several tribes moving between seasonal hunting and gathering grounds. That made it the perfect location for Grant’s trading post. This stone hammer was found by Conrad Warren not far from his home. It provided evidence of the people traveling through the valley in early days.
