When calves are branded they may also be dehorned. This requires removing emerging horn buds. Properly done, the horn will not grow back. If not removed, horns can cause injury to man and beast. Another advantage is the elimination of horn flies, which torment horned cattle by clustering and biting at the base of the horn.
