Postcard
1944-1945
Printed in the Netherlands
Postcard depicting a caricature of General Dwight D. Eisenhower standing atop a slain dragon. The Dutch inscription translates literally as "General Dwight Eisenhower, controller of the Nazi dragon!”

At the end of the war, in 1945, the people of the Netherlands had heartfelt gratitude towards General Eisenhower and the Allied troops under his command who liberated their country. Holland suffered immensely under the Nazi occupation, especially in the north half of the country during the winter of 1945. The Nazis allowed a large part of the population to starve.
