Following the war, Eisenhower wrote his memoirs in “Crusade in Europe.” The book was an instant best seller. One former American GI, in praising Ike’s account of the war, said that “I fought over there – but it wasn’t until I read General Ike’s story that I really understood what happened!” Eisenhower dedicated his book, “To the Allied Soldier, Sailor, and Airman of World War II.” The book, published by Doubleday and Company, Inc., was later the basis of a television documentary by the same name.
