President and Nehru Touring the Farm
December 17, 1956
Prime Minister Nehru sat with President Eisenhower on the sun porch and discussed their Cold War differences.  The President found it difficult to comprehend why Nehru stubbornly remained neutral in the Cold War.  Nehru explained that it would not be expedient for him to side with the West.  India could ill afford to antagonize its more powerful neighbor, Communist China.
