Fossil Tracks
Copper Canyon
Late MioceneĀ [4 mya]

This fossil contains tracks of various species, including the tracks from a two-toed llama-like artiodactyl and a large gruiform bird. The fossilized tracks were discovered in Copper Canyon by park naturalist, Donald Curry in 1936-1942. Copper Canyon contains remarkable specimens of fossilized tracks such as these. To protect these fragile resources, Copper Canyon is a closed area, accessible only by ranger-led hikes.
