Tire
1904

This canvas and leather tire was used on the first car to enter Death Valley in 1904, a one cylinder Cadillac. This tire was used as a cover for the regular tire, and fitted on top of the rubber. The canvas body here supports transverse treads of leather belting, added for strength and traction. Despite its name, or perhaps because of it, Death Valley has attracted many curious explorers and surveyors.
