Overcoat
Made by Harry Berger & Co.
Chicago, IL

Albert Johnson probably wore this morning coat for special occasions in Chicago. It is made of fairly heavy weight wool with satin edging and satin covered buttons. The waist pockets are unusual for the period since the label has "Date 1/6-12". The waist pockets were popular in the nineteenth century when the morning coat was an everyday garment for men. By the twentieth century morning coats were worn mostly for weddings or dressy occasions and the waist pocket was not common.
