Guitar Pin

This guitar pin symbolizes the Sandburg family's love of music. There were radios and record players throughout the Sandburg home and classical music was a family favorite. The home was also full of instruments. The grand piano that Margaret Sandburg played was the focal point of the front room. The family often gathered in the front room to sing as Carl Sandburg played the guitar. Sandburg's interest in the American folkmusic reflected his interest in the history of America and its people as told through the stories of the songs. In 1927, he published a compilation of folk music entitled The American Songbag.
