San Ildefonso Pueblo
1935-36
By Helmut Naumer, Sr.
The people of this Tewa-speaking pueblo along the Rio Grande north of Santa Fe consider the Tsankawi section of Bandelier to be one of their ancestral homes. In this view of the plaza, the round room is their distinctive kiva. Since ancestral times, kivas have been places for meetings, religious gatherings, and teaching boys. They are found in many present-day pueblos.
