    Deaccessions
    Decorative Arts and Furnishings

    The objects listed below are available for deaccession:

    Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve intends to deaccession a collection of approximately 170 objects that do not fit the park’s Scope of Collections Statement. Most of the objects date to the twentieth century, but some of the items were manufactured in the late nineteenth century. None of the items in the proposed deaccession collection have provenience to the park.

    The park acquired most of these objects during the acquisition process for the park’s three Acadian cultural centers. The objects in this proposed deaccession consist largely of manufactured tools and equipment and transportation accessories that are not specifically of Acadian origin or use.

    Types of objects in the collection include:

    Land Transportation Accessories: bridles, blinders, horse collars, harness fragments, hames

    Fishing and Trapping Tools and Equipment: nets, trawl nets, hoop net, crab traps, crab nets, crawfish traps, crawfish nets, catfish trap

    Agricultural Tools and Farm Equipment: cultivators, plows, planters, harrows, sickles, hay forks, hoe, corn sheller, scythe

    Building Components: boards, wall sections, beams, molding, shingle

    Woodworking Tools and Equipment: cutter boxes, planes, hatchet, drawknife, scraper, vise

    Food Tools and Equipment: pots, kettles, pans (roasting, sauce), sifter, butcher paper holder, tablecloth

    Maintenance Tools and Equipment: washboards, broom, fluting iron

    Musical Tools and Equipment: violin cases, guitar case, violin

    Miscellaneous Items: flags, wheelbarrow, trail board, crib, frame, heaters, shoes, pantaloons, cistern, two-handed crosscut saws, pulleys, barrels, bucksaw, quilting frame, radio charger, shovel, coffee can
