CD-ROM - Magnet Interactive, Inc
The National Park Service entered into an agreement with Magnet Interactive, Inc. to
develop an educational CD-ROM that would enable students to gain information about
the Vietnam War, the Vietnam generation and the subsequent planning and
construction of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the objects left at the Memorial.
The CD is divided into several areas, including a visit to the Memorial, the design
competition and construction of the Memorial, information relating to the time period
surrounding the war and its after-effects, as well as a listing of the names on the
Memorial.
The trip to the Memorial is depicted very effectively. It allows you to actually view the site
and walk down the pathway to the Wall. Names of those soldiers on the Wall are read
off as you go down the walkway. Pictures of soldiers and objects left by visitors at the
Wall become visible. With a click of the mouse, you can look further into the soldier's
life or into the objects that are left behind. Audio tapes, video
tape, letters, photographs, and other documents are available. File folders are used to
assist the visitors in understanding the time period of this War and its aftermath.
