Moving In |
The new Museum Resource Center construction is underway. This 52,000 sf state of the art museum support center will be finished in February 2000. This facility will contain 4 large viewing windows which will allow visitors a glimpse into the "behind the scenes" work that goes on at the Center. This 9 year old building, which is being retrofitted to museum standards, will house cultural and natural history collections from the National Capital Region, and will contain archeological processing labs, a researcher access room, a press area/layout room for the Vietnam Veterans Collection, a digital imaging/photography center, and the Regional Library. The Department of the Interior Ethnographic Collection will also be housed at the Center. This site includes a photo collection outlining the processes that go into such a large-scale move. Browse through the selection on the left and see what it takes to move several million museum and archeological objects from one storage facility to another. |
