"Vietnam Memories: Stories Left at the Wall" is the name of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection exhibit now on display at the Jersey Explorer Children's Museum in East Orange, New Jersey. This project is the first collaboration between the VVMC and a children's museum. The exhibit is scheduled to be open until the first week of March 1997. The objective of this exhibit was to examine the Vietnam War--known as America's first "teenage war"-- through the eyes of the people who left the items. A total of 170 items are included; many, although not all, are associated with children or were left by children.
The Jersey Explorer Children's Museum is presenting a number of interactive programs designed specifically to educate its younger visitors (age 10 to 18) on some of the humanistic issues that viewing the collection inevitably raises. These include interactive computer programs,"story boxes," workshops, and a play called "Letters from Vietnam" which is being produced this fall.
